NYS Announces Requirements for Recruitment After Ruto’s Directive

The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced requirements for recruitment into its training days after President William Ruto announced that the government would give priority to NYS graduates in recruitments.

In a statement, NYS said that it had received messages from Kenyans asking about the requirements to join its programs.

Consequently, the Youth service announced that recruitment exercises take place after a formal advertisement both in print and electronic media.

At the same time, NYS said recruitments are done in every sub-county of all 47 counties of Kenya in locations announced in the advertisements.

“We are in receipt of overwhelming goodwill messages, from young Kenyan Citizens, enquiring on the requirements needed for enlistment,” the statement read.

According to the statement, one is qualified for enlistment into the Service as a recruit if he or she meets requirements including proving Kenyan citizenship by birth, proving that one is aged between 18-24 years.

Requirements for NYS recruitment

In terms of the minimum academic requirements for enlistment, NYS said that a candidate must have obtained a minimum grade of D (plain) in KCSE or its equivalent.

Additionally, candidates offering themselves for recruitment should be medically and physically fit, must not have been convicted of a criminal offence.

To further prove one’s moral values in the society, the service demands that every prospective officer must have a valid certificate of good conduct.

In addition to these requirements, the Youth Service stated that candidates would be required to meet any other qualification that the Director General may prescribe from time to time.

The announcement came amid anticipation of recruitment exercises by major disciplined forces agencies in the country.

According to his speech, plans to make the NYS the pre-deployment training ground were in top gear in line with the Kenya Kwanza administration’s promise to optimize labor exports.

“NYS is going to be the central organization for pre-deployment training so that Kenyans understand what to do when they go out as export labor,” said President Ruto.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria had also hinted at plans to have all public servants undergo mandatory training at the NYS as part of the administration’s resolve to revamp public service.
