Former President of the United States Barack Obama is set to visit Kenya for a groundbreaking project next year.
President William Ruto announced this during the launch of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians’ Association (KYPA) strategic plan on June 13,2024.

In addition, the president announced that key agenda in Obama’s visit will be the establishment of a leadership school in the University of Nairobi, that will meet standards of the Kennedy School of Leadership in Harvard University.
“When I was in America, I asked for meeting with former president Barrack Obama and requested him to assist us set-up a school in fashion of Kennedy of school in Harvard,’’ he said.

Ruto added that the school would be named after the former US president.

“This time a school of Leadership in UON and it will be called Barack Obama School of leadership,” he affirmed.

The president also affirmed that Obama would help mobilize funds to build facilities for the school of leadership.
“Obama has promised to help mobilize funds for a sustainable school of leadership so that we can have better leaders than us in future,’’ he stated.
President William Ruto said this during the launch of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association strategic plan.
In attendance was Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, speaker of National Assembly Moses Wetangula, and a host of members of parliament (MPs) among them being Kikuyu member of parliament Kimani Ichungw’a, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, and Manyatta MP Githinji Mukunji- among others.
Mukunji expressed his gratitude to the president for the tremendous support for young leaders as he urged the president to include young parliamentarians in his international trips’ delegations.
“We request you to have a representative from the KYPA during your trips abroad,” Mukunji said.

The KYPA prides itself in producing various leaders one of them being President William Ruto, and Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja among others.

Additionally, Ruto affirmed the importance of leadership as it determines the destiny of nations while referring to the change of funding structure of universities.
Answering Githinji Mukunji’s request, Ruto asked MPs to initiate collaborations between their Constituencies and layout networks between themselves.
“How will I take you with me if you have never gone out of your constituencies,’’ he asked.
After the launch, the President jetted out to attend the 50th G7 summit to be held in Italy and the summit on peace in Ukraine.
While at the summit, Ruto will speak on African leaders’ commitment to fostering a prosperous world through a fairer international financial system, a more representative and effective multilateral system, and the critical importance of collectively addressing global challenges.
