The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has condemned continued attacks targeting Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah after unknown people raided his rural home in Kwang’amor Village, Busia County.
In a statement on Thursday, April 4, ODM demanded that the government provides security to the Senator as the incident was not a first occurrence.
Additionally, they revealed that the individuals who raided the activist’s home demanded to know his whereabouts, therefore Omtatah’s life may still be in danger.
“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the continued harassment of the Senator of Busia Okiya Omtatah the latest being the raid on his rural home by unknown people who were demanding to know his whereabouts.
“Every Kenyan including leaders must be guaranteed their safety at all times. We call on the government to move quickly and investigate the claims,” the statement indicated.

The Senator said that at around 3:00 am in the morning, his brother called to inform him that the group of men harassed him and his wife to reveal where Omtatah was.
Furthermore, the wife of Omtatah’s brother was beaten up by the armed goods and sustained injuries from the incident.
However, the group of men were reported to have not stolen any property from the premises.
“They did not steal or damage anything in the compound, but the police are on the case to know what exactly happened. We do not know who those people were, but we suspect they were in the compound for some time because they claimed they knew the compound very well.
“I left home on Tuesday evening after a series of functions only to be called at 2am to be told there were people in my compound looking for me,” Omtatah said.

Previous Attack on Omtatah
On Friday, March 22, the lawyer revealed that he was attacked by a group of men while on his way home, adding that the unknown men began pelting his car forcing his driver to speed off to avoid any serious injuries.
Then, Omtatah implicated a governor for the attack, saying that the attack was connected to an investigation he was conducting over a case of missing Ksh2.3 billion.
“I only went to court to say that I had written him 12 letters requesting for the documents, but he refused to issue them. About Ksh2.3 billion that belonged to the county, is missing and I am trying to find out what happened.
“On my way back home, a group of boys began pelting my car and I do not think it was a random attack. I believe that the goons were sent. Now, I can see that diplomacy will not work. I want the governor to know that I will not relent,” he said.
