Parents of Murdered MKU Student Reveal Police Blunder That Delayed Response

The lifeless body of Faith Musembi, a student at the Mount Kenya University (MKU), was discovered in her Thika Town apartment by her parents.

While speaking to the media, the father, Boniface Musembi revealed that he had to get help to cut down her daughter’s apartment door to access the house where they bumped into her lifeless body.

According to the parents, unknown people called them and demanded a ransom of Ksh20,000 indicating that they had captured her. However, although the parents sent the ransom, the individuals who were holding Faith did not let her go.

“When we got there, we decided to cut down the padlock. We bought a hacksaw from a nearby hardware and cut it to open the door. We then discovered the body of my daughter inside and she was already dead. From my assessment, she was killed,” he said.

At the same time, the parents have blamed the police for failing to follow up on the matter promptly, adding that they could have saved the life of their child.

The girl’s mother said that she reported the matter to the police immediately after the ransom demand was made. However, police reportedly downplayed it as a trick by the friends of the deceased or her boyfriend which is common among students.

When they realized that there was no help coming, they visited Mount Kenya University to report the matter.

“The police said that sometimes it is a game students play. And I told them that it could not be a game because I know the welfare of my child,” said the father.

“They sent a photo on WhatsApp, and I saw that there was blood coming from my faith’s nose and she had bit herself on the lip and I knew that she was no more,” the deceased Uncle Joseph Kithaka added.

On the other hand, the family indicated that the doctor’s report revealed that the deceased had bleeding in her uterus caused by the rapture of the placenta which the doctors noted had detached itself.

An autopsy conducted on the body noted that Faith died due to excessive bleeding.
