Four children have been burnt to death after a fire broke out a house in Nginda location in Murang’a County.
A police OB report seen by The Kenya Times indicated that the incident happened on Thursday night, December 19 and was reported at Maragua Police Station.
“It was reported that there was a house on fire at the Gakoigo Sublocation Nginda location,” reads part of the OB.
Police officers rushed to the scene and established a room rented by one Lucy Njeri had caught fire.
Njeri had gone to the market and left her four children locked inside the room.
“Police officers from Maragua and DCI Murang’a south rushed to the scene and established that one rented iron sheet room belonging to one Lucy Njeri had caught fire while she had gone to the market centre and had locked four juveniles therein,” adds another part of the OB.
“All were burnt beyond recognition,” the police said.
Cause & Value of Lost Items
The police have documented the scene accordingly, and the bodies moved to Murang’a level five hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
The cause of fire and value of the lost items have not yet been established.
DCI Murang’a south are dealing with the case to investigate the cause of the fire.

Witnesses Narrate the Fire Incident
Witnesses narrated that the fire destroyed the house completely while the children were asleep.
Neighbors were the first people to notice the fire after they spotted clouds of smoke coming from the house and rushed to check.
However, the fire spread rapidly throughout the house, and attempts to save the children failed, forcing the locals to put it out.

They managed to extinguish it after several hours, but the children had already been burnt beyond recognition.
Reports say that the deceased, two boys and two girls, and three of the children were related.
The incident comes two weeks after a similar tragedy in Moburo, Kericho County, where three children lost their lives.
