Police in Kiambu County have obtained crucial information on the suspect who raped and brutally murdered a woman in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The police have discovered that the 62-year-old woman was attacked by a lone rapist at 4 AM while walking to her farm in Ruiru.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect is said to have inserted sharp objects in the woman’s private parts which led to her bleeding heavily.
The law enforcers visited the scene in the company of homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for the second time.
They stated that they have obtained crucial information that will assist in the hunt of the suspect who is still at large.
Kiambu Woman succumbs while receiving treatment
The Kiambu Police Commander Michael Muchiri stated that the visit to the scene of crime demonstrates the government’s commitment to combating rape, violence against women, and femicide.
“We are actually here to revisit this scene and also to indicate the seriousness with which we are taking all matters to do with rape, violence against women, and femicide,” said Muchiri.

Muchiri went on to narrate the circumstances under which the deceased met the suspect who left her for dead after raping her.
“The lady was working across the bushes. She was crossing over from Matangi Area towards Ruiru and clearly you can see this area is bushy,” added Muchiri.
Good Samaritans rescued the victim, rushed her to the Ruiru Prison Dispensary, and was later transferred to the Nairobi Women’s Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.

SGBV statistics in 2024
This came hours after the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi admitted to the femicide menace in the country.

“Currently, the elephant in the room in the security sector is the worrying trend of emerging cases of femicide which have brought to the fore the underlying and ongoing violations of the rights of mainly women,” stated Mudavadi.
According Mudavadi, the country has so far recorded a total of 7,107 Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) cases from September 2023.
He also stated that between August and November 2024, 100 murders of women were recorded, with Nairobi having the highest number of SGBV incidents. Samburu and Mandera counties have the lowest SGBV incidents.
