A police report has revealed that Fredrick Odhiambo Omondi, popularly known as Fred Omondi, died in a tragic road accident along Kangundo Road in Nairobi on Saturday morning, June 15, 2024.
Fred was riding on a motorcycle when a Forward Sacco bus headed towards the Central Business District (CBD) from Kayole estate collided head on with the motorcycle headed in the opposite direction.
Fredrick died on the spot from the impact, while Stephen Maina, who was riding the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital.
Further, the police report indicated that the rider suffered serious multiple injuries on both legs and fractured his two hands.

Additionally, the report noted that the incident occurred at about 6:00 AM near Caltex petrol station on Kangundo Road.
“The accident involved a Mitsubishi bus (registration number KCC 126A) operated by Forward Sacco and driven by Stephen Maina of Kayole, who was heading towards the CBD, A motorcycle coming from the opposite side of the road (near Consolidated Bank) collided head-on with the bus.
“As a result, the pillion passenger, Fredrick Odhiambo Omondi, died on the spot,” the police statement indicated.

Fred Omondi’s Last Moments
Preliminary reports indicated that the comedian was emceeing an event on Friday, June 14 night at the Captains Lounge Grill in Athi River.
Friends and confidants have stated that the accident may have occurred as he left the joint.
Activist and Comedian Eric Omondi has mourned his brother, expressing his heartbreak and unbelief over the incident.
“My brother, it is not well. God, receive you till next time…Go well brother,” said Eric.

Career and Life of Fred Omondi
Fred came to the limelight through his performances at the Churchill Show, hosted and run by Daniel Ndambuki.
After a stint in the show, he began a freelance career which entailed hosting events and emceeing at different entertainment joints.
In a past interview, Fred credited his older brother Eric Omondi for inspiring him to pursue a career in entertainment.
Also, he shared that he wanted to curve out a niche for himself in comedy to avoid overreliance on his brother, who was already a household name.
“People used to call me Eric’s brother and it really pissed me off, but I created my own niche and nowadays they call me Fred Omondi. All I can say is that I am okay, and everything is going as planned,” he said in a past interview.
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicate that between January 1 to April 30, 2024, road accidents have claimed 1554 lives, with pedestrians being ranked as the most vulnerable road users.
A total number 574 fatalities from the accidents were pedestrians, with motorcyclists following closely at 356 and passengers at 329.
On the other hand, at least 134 drivers have died in the first four months of 2024 while pillion passengers recorded 129 deaths.
According to NTSA, March was the deadliest recording 403 road fatalities followed by the month of April with 388 deaths.
