President William Ruto has vowed to reclaim the lost glory of Nairobi City.
Ruto says the city must recapture its cleanliness, made safe and healthy for everyone.
“The unhealthy environmental situation must be corrected to restore Nairobi to its true identity,” he said.
The President spoke on Wednesday in Korogocho, Nairobi County, during the launch of the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
According to Ruto, the Government has resolved to not only reclaim Nairobi’s reputation as Africa’s green city but also live up to its ancestral identity as the river of cool and fresh water.
He exuded confidence that the Commission will bring in fresh and considerable effort to accelerate the restoration of Nairobi.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo said it is time the pollution of environment was termed an economic crime in the country.
On his part, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, said the sustainable cleaning of Nairobi River represents the current regime’s legacy.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said the commitment, focus and partnership with the community and other actors will offer the much needed financial and technical muscles to restoring the glory of Nairobi rivers.
“There have been many attempts to restore and sustain clean rivers in the Capital City over the years, but they have failed, and the rivers have slid back to pollution”.
“It is time to finish this unfinished business; we must bring back dignity and glory to the people and our environment for shared prosperity,” Rigathi said.
Gachagua said the government will commit resources to the worthy course of cleaning Nairobi rivers.
