Dual citizenship has become an increasingly important aspect of global mobility, allowing individuals to enjoy the rights and privileges of citizenship in more than one country.
In Kenya, the law requires every dual citizen to declare their other citizenship within three months of acquiring it.
Failure to do so could result in a hefty fine or imprisonment.
According to Section 8(3) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011, every Kenyan who acquires citizenship of another country must disclose this status in a prescribed manner within the three-month window.
Section 8(4) of the same Act warns that failing to comply is an offense punishable by a fine of up to five million shillings, imprisonment for up to three years, or both.
