She is the daughter of Bishop Jackson Kosgei and Rose Kosgei; her father, a prominent cleric who overcame childhood polio, served as a significant inspiration.

Emmy and her three siblings, Dr. Nancy Kosgei, Daisy Cheptoo, Kadogo, Chebet, and Kipkor Tom, participated in daily chores like milking cows before attending family prayer sessions, and her talent was first noticed in her local church, where she began singing and playing the keyboard at a young age.
She attended Eldama Ravine Boarding School from standard four level, later joining and completing her high school studies at Solian Girls’ High School in Baringo.
In 1999, she moved to Nairobi and joined Utalii College to study hospitality.
She also attended the Air Travel & Related Studies Centre for further professional training.
