The Public Service Commission (PSC) has issued an update for the 900 clerical positions under the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration as earlier advertised.
In a statement, PSC has instructed qualified Kenyans who applied to look out for updates on their application portal.
Also, the government employer has explained that interviews have started and that candidates will soon be shortlisted for the 900 advertised positions.
Further, the statement added that the ongoing interviews are scheduled to end on Monday, September 9.
Candidates who applied for the positions have been directed to confirm their interview dates and location from the portal.
“Interviews for Vacancy NO 216/2023 (Clerical Officer II) are currently underway and scheduled to end on 9th September 2024. All the best to the shortlisted candidates,” the statement read in part.
“We therefore urge applicants to check their PSC job portals for updates on interview dates and other details,” PSC stated.

PSC Announcement on the Jobs
The 900 clerical positions were among 1,900 vacant positions that were advertised in October 2023.
1,701 of the vacancies were in the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration.
A candidate must have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C- (Minus) or its approved equivalent.
The clerical officers will be deployed in the Human Resource Management Units, General Registry, Procurement, Accounts office or General office services under the Ministry.
According to the PSC, their duties will include compiling statistical records, sorting, filing and dispatching letters, maintaining an efficient filling system, and processing appointments.
They will also be responsible for compiling records on promotions, discipline, transfers and other related duties in human resource management.
Other duties include computation of financial or statistical records based on routine or special sources of information, preparing payment vouchers, and compiling data and drafting simple letters.

Clarification on Recruitment Procedure of the Commission
Earlier in July, PSC was compelled to explain its recruitment procedures after receiving petitions from representatives of interns who previously served in Ministries, State Departments, Agencies (MDAs).
The move followed concerns raised by the youths over allegations of corruption and nepotism within the public service.
In addition, the representatives demanded an audit of hiring practices since 2018, the removal of ghost workers, the dismissal of individuals with fake certificates, and the enforcement of retirement age policies.
The commission explained that it recruits on behalf of public institutions and employs individuals based on requests from MDAs.
“MDAs submit requests to the Commission after receiving approval from the National Treasury on the availability of funds to cater for employment. Job vacancy indents received by PSC from MDAs detail qualifications and number of staff required.
“The Commission then recruits, selects, and submits names of successful candidates to respective MDAs for formal offer of employment,” PSC stated.
