Raila Odinga has intervened between two warring members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in Migori County.
Governor Ochilo Ayacko of Migori and Suna West MP Peter Masara have vowed to join forces for the betterment of their constituents and the advancement of their party’s goals.
This pledge was made following their appearance before the Central Committee meeting chaired by ODM party leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Suna West MP Hon. Peter Masara have promised to work together in the interest of the party and for the people of Migori County,” noted the statement by ODM.
“This was after they both appeared before the Central Committee meeting chaired by Party Leader Raila Odinga,” said ODM.
During the meeting, Governor Ayacko and Peter Masara expressed their commitment to working hand in hand, setting aside any differences for the greater good of Migori County and its residents.
ODM’s attention had earlier been drawn to a disturbing incident that happened on Friday 3rd May 2024, in Uriri Sub County, Migori County where a funeral service, was disrupted after police lobbed teargas canisters at peaceful mourners, occasioning injuries and destruction of property.
ODM Notes Political Violence in Migori
Noticeably, footages from the venue showed that the attack was coordinated and synchronized through collusion between some local politicians and the police.
In a strongly worded statement, ODM condemned the use of police forces for political ends, pointing out the importance of upholding democratic principles and the rule of law.

Further, the party called for a thorough investigation into the incidents, demanding accountability for all involved, regardless of their political affiliations.
At the same time, ODM expressed concern over the rising inflammatory rhetoric employed by some local politicians, which it deemed to have contributed to the escalation of violence.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful political engagement, stressing the need for respect and civility in public discourse.
As part of its efforts to address the situation, ODM summoned all elected leaders affiliated with the party who were present at the events in question.

They are required to appear before party leadership at Chungwa House, on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, at 10:00 am.
The purpose of the summons according to ODM was to explain the role, if any, that these leaders played in the incidents and to hold them accountable for their actions.
