The second lady of Kenya Dorcas Gachagua is widely known for her zeal towards the empowerment of the boychild. Her campaign has been recognized and has received massive support from female political and religious leaders who have vowed to work hand in hand with her, to rescue the boychild through rehabilitation and empowerment.
Speaking during a meeting with female leaders in her Karen office last week, Mrs. Gachagua positively affirmed that the cure for economic and social insecurity in Kenya lay with the empowerment of boys and men.
The second lady, during her visits to towns and villages, noted with concern that something is wrong with the boychild, and it needs immediate attention. “We must pull the boy child away from drugs and substance abuse, suicide, and depression. If we empower him, we will secure the lives of both the boy and girl, and promote strong families,” she said.

She further made an appeal to all religious institutions and urged them to embrace the boychild empowerment program. “We want to have a rehab center where the clergy will give them spiritual nourishment, as well as involve the line ministries and government agencies like the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse to ensure we bring out a whole child and a whole man.”
Kiambu women representative Anne Wamuratha while echoing her sentiments urged women to actively participate in the empowerment of the boychild. she said “Enough is enough! We have buried enough young men because of alcohol, drug, and other substance abuse. We are losing a generation and it is time for mothers to rise and get ready to fight for the boy child.”
The religious leaders in attendance vowed to rally behind the rescue program, promising their full support on the mission. According to Nancy Oginde of Christ is the Answer Ministries (Citam) the challenges currently facing the boy child are a pandemic that must be dealt with “What we have in our hands is a pandemic in this country, where drugs have filled the lives of our children. The boy child is the seed carrier, and women will be answerable when we lose a generation. Let us rally behind this cause.”
Reverend Kathy Kiuna of Jubilee Christian Church urged women to accord their full support to the mission of rescuing and empowering the boychild.
