President William Ruto has announced the appointment of 10 new female ambassadors to different countries in the world.
While speaking in Embu during the celebrations of the International Women’s Day, Ruto revealed that he had also appointed six other deputy ambassadors.
According to the head of state, the move was to mark the celebrations as well as recognize the contribution of women in the leadership of the country.
Ruto emphasized that men and women have a right to equal treatment and opportunities as mandated by the constitution.
“Today morning, as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, I have appointed 10 more women as ambassadors in different parts of the world.
“And another six deputy ambassadors in recognition of the contribution of women to the leadership of our nation,” he announced.

Ruto on Low Interest Loans for Women
At the same time, the president announced that the government was implementing strategies to provide low interest rates for women in the country.
Also, he underscored the importance of economic empowerment of women adding that the Women Enterprise Fund ought to serve Kenyan women better.
As a result, Ruto said that the fund will eliminate the requirement for collateral for women borrowing women.
“I have asked the Cabinet Secretary responsible for the Women enterprise Fund Aisha Jumwa that we will do three things to make women enterprise different and intentional.
“The first one is to eliminate the requirement for collateral when women are borrowing money from Women enterprise fund,” he said.
Secondly, Ruto announced that the “interest rest for women borrowing from the fund will be reduced to only 6 percent.”
Lastly, he noted that the government would enhance the money allocated to the fund as it works on restructuring it to reach more women.

Women and Leadership
Additionally, the head of state recognized that women had been excluded in decision making especially on national political matters, leaving them vulnerable.
“We recognize the need to change conditions and situations where female participation in key economic sectors remain minimal.
“Generally speaking, women remained excluded in decision making in matters of governance and within political institutions while million suffer or are exposed or are vulnerable to gender-based violence,” he added.
However, he stated that his administration would transform the conditions to highlight women’s contributions.
“Through highly intentional interventions, our bottom-up agenda prescribed a pathway to transform the conditions, contributions and participation of women in national development by deliberately eliminating every cultural, political, social and other excuse for treating women unjustly,” he said.
