President William Ruto has pledged hefty rewards for Harambee Stars players following their historic qualification for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) knockout stages after a 1-0 victory against Morocco.
Speaking on Monday August 11, when he met the team to congratulate them, Ruto increased his reward for the Harambee Stars from Ksh 1 million to Ksh 2.5 million.
This means that each player will receive Ksh2.5 million if they win against Zambia on Sunday August 17.
A quarter-final victory will see each player awarded Ksh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice.
“Met the team to congratulate them on their victory over Morocco and their historic qualification for the CHAN knockout stages,” Ruto said.
“We’ve also agreed on rewards: A win against Zambia next Sunday will earn each player Ksh2.5 million. If they triumph in the quarterfinals, each will be gifted Ksh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice.”

The Head of State also honoured his earlier promise by awarding Ksh 1 million each to all 27 players and 15 technical bench members, a total of Ksh 42 million, following their victory over Morocco.
“Tayari niko na maneno yenu ya jana hapa sawa. Tulikubaliana kwamba mnacheza kama nyinyi, na mimi nacheza kama mimi,” Ruto added.
“This Sunday, God willing, we will win. I have added a little more — if you win, each player will get Ksh2.5 million, including those on the bench.”

At the same time, President Ruto praised the Harambee Stars for uniting the nation through their historic performance, urging Kenyans to embrace unity as a driving force for national progress.
Ruto said unity has always propelled the country forward and warned against allowing negativity, failure, or doubt to derail its potential. “If we believe in ourselves and refuse to let division or hate enter the equation, Kenya can become the great nation we all dream of,” he said.
The Head of State lauded the team for bringing Kenyans together, noting that their qualification for the CHAN knockout stages was a testament to what collective effort can achieve.
“We stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within close reach,” Ruto added.

Harambee Stars CHAN Performance
Ten-man Harambee Stars put on a gallant display to beat two-time champions Morocco 1-0 in their third match of the 2024 CHAN at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, in Nairobi.
Kenya played the entire second half with 10 men after Tusker FC midfielder Chrispine Erambo was shown a red card on the stroke of halftime.
Erambo’s red card came after Ryan Ogam, had given Kenya the lead in the 42nd minute with his first international goal, setting the team on course to end Morocco’s 14-match unbeaten run in the competition.
The result, following a 1–0 win over DR Congo and a 1–1 draw with Angola, lifts Kenya to seven points from three games and leaves them within touching distance of a historic quarter-final berth on their tournament debut.
