President William Ruto has asked Kenyans and political leaders to respect police officers and officers from other security agencies.
Speaking during breakfast with the FKF Premier League Champions at State House on Tuesday, June 24, Ruto said his administration will support every security officer who puts their lives on the line for Kenya so that the citizens and the country can be safe.
He said the people who undermine and intimidate security agencies are making a mistake.
Ruto said the officers deserve every support that they need to secure the country.
He said Kenyans must look after police officers as they look after their families and secure our nation.
“To every police officer, I give my assurance that the government of Kenya will support and stand by you as you secure our nation and keep our families safe. I ask every citizen and leader to respect and support the police to make sure they secure our country,” he said.
Ruto said no citizen is allowed to intimidate or use force against the police.
He stated that the police are the first defenders of Kenyans’ rights and ensure the stability of the country.
“You cannot intimidate, insult, threaten or use force against the police; you are threatening the nation. These are our frontline defenders of our rights as Kenyans and of the nation to be peaceful and secure,” he said.
Ruto Explains Importance of Peace & Stability
Ruto explained that peace and stability are key to the existence of the country.
He reiterated his support for the security agency, stating that the government has sufficient infrastructure to support the work of the police.
“Without peace, security and stability, we don’t have a nation. The people who put their lives on the line to make sure that our families, property, and nation are safe are our security agencies,” he said.
“This administration will stand by them so that they can discharge their responsibilities within the law to make sure our country is safe.”
Ruto stated that he is proud of what the Kenya Police have done in Haiti.

Murkomen Receives Intelligence of Planned Chaos
Speaking during the same event, Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a directive to the National Police Service (NPS) ahead of the planned Gen Z protests on Wednesday, June 25, 2024.
Murkomen said the government has received intelligence that some politicians are planning to use the protests to cause chaos in Nairobi.
Murkomen claimed that one of the politicians behind the “plan” was on the government a few months ago.
He accused the group of politicians of buying clubs and machetes and attempting to distribute them to the youth ahead of the protests.
“We have received a notice from some political actors who were standing here a few months ago, they were defending law and order and against chaos. But they are now sitting down planning, buying machetes and rungus, trying to distribute to young people, to chaos and violence,” he said.

Orders to Police Officers
Murkomen has directed the police to be ruthless while dealing with such individuals.
He explained that the government wants law and order to prevail in Kenya.
“They want us to sit here, fold our hands and say that it is Article 37 of our constitution. The police must be ruthless in dealing with such criminals because we want Kenya to be a country of law and order, not chaos, so that all of us can thrive,” Murkomen said.
He stated that youth should be involved in activities like football instead of running battles in the streets.
“They deserve to play football like these who are their generation and colleagues. We want to give them an opportunity and not to be used by political actors to cause violence,” he said.
