Safaricom PLC has announced a planned system maintenance on the night of Sunday 14th July 2024, from 11pm to 4am on Monday 15th July 2024.
In a statement, the Company said it has been innovating and enhancing their services to connect their customers with endless possibilities.
“To meet our promise to always offer worry-free superior customer experiences, we will be conducting a scheduled system maintenance on the night of Sunday 14th July 2024, from 11pm to 4am on Monday 15th July 2024,” reads the statement in part.
During the maintenance, access to Lipa na M-PESA, Paybill and Buy Goods services, International Money Transfers (Western Union), M-PESA Global, as well as M-PESA App and mySafaricom App will be available intermittently (not continuously).
However, all other services including calls, data, SMS and all other M-PESA services will be available as usual. The timing of this maintenance has been planned to result in the least inconvenience to our customers.
Safaricom further apologized for any inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding as we strive to provide you with best-in-class services. Thank you for choosing us as your trusted provider,” Safaricom said.
Similarly, on June 22, the company notified customers of a planned maintenance on its M-PESA system on Monday, June 24, 2024. The maintenance was to take place from 1 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.

During this time, all M-PESA services were unavailable but other services, including calls, data, and SMS, will remain operational.
Safaricom Responds to Claims of Sharing Customers’ Private Information
Recently, Kenyans have been raising complaints alleging that the telco giant publicly shares customers’ private information.
People on social media raised complaints, alleging that telco giant assists the deep state in kidnapping and abducting anti-government protesters.
The accusations, have gained significant traction online, sparking outrage particularly among the country’s youth, leading to calls for a boycott of Safaricom’s services.
They claim that the telecom giant provides communication data and real-time locations of people to government authorities.

However, in a statement issued on June 25, Safaricom acknowledged the online conversations and concerns raised surrounding data privacy and clarified that it had not shared any of its customers’ information with any government agency.
“On the current issue in discussion, we confirm that we have not received any court order requiring us to share customer information with any government agency.”
