On Thursday, January 9, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the results for 2,829 candidates across the country had been withheld.

Ogamba revealed that the decision followed suspected exam malpractices and irregularities, adding that the results would remain suspended pending further investigations.

“The council is empowered in law as provided in KNEC handling of examination irregularities rules of 2015 legal notice no 132 of 2015 rule no 8 to withhold the results of any candidate or examination center suspected of having been involved in exam irregularities or malpractice pending completion of investigations,” CS Ogamba stated.

“To this end the results of 2, 829 candidates suspected to have been involved in examination irregularities have been withheld pending completion of investigations that should be completed within a period of 30 days from the official release of exams which is today.”

Lugulu Girls and Other Schools’ KCSE Results Withheld

The Kenya Times has established that four schools are yet to receive their results so far, including a top national school, Lugulu Girls in Bungoma County.

The school’s management has appealed to candidates and their parents to remain patient as they pursue the release of the results through the official appeal channels with the examination council.

“Dear Parent/Guardian, we are aware that your child has not yet received their examination results. Please rest assured that the matter is being addressed, and the results will be made available to you in due time. Further communication will follow,” the school principal, Dinah Cheruiyot, reassured them in a letter.

Western Region Director of Education Jared Obiero confirmed that the results for Lugulu Girls were withheld.

“The results were pended and we are sorting out the matter. Let there be no cause of alarm. The results will be out soon,” said Obiero.

In addition, the 2024 KCSE results of St. Peter’s Abwao Secondary School in Migori have been withheld over suspected examination irregularities.

Abwao emerged as the number one Nyanza school in the 2023 KCSE results.

Despite other schools celebrating impressive results, the extra-county school did not receive its results on Thursday.

Migori County Education Director Jacob Onyiego confirmed that the Kenya National Examination Council had withheld the results of the school, pending further investigations into the suspected irregularities.

“Investigations are ongoing to confirm that there was no cheating,” Onyiego said.

KCSE Results for Kalonzo-Linked Mama Malia Academy Withheld

Additionally, KNEC withheld results for all the 92 candidates at Mama Malia Academy, a private girls’ secondary school ran by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s Foundation.

The examinations council said it was investigating alleged complaints of cheating at the institution based at Tseikuru, Kitui County.

School Principal Naomi Ndambuki said she was shocked to receive a letter from KNEC communicating the action, which has thrown the candidates into panic.

“The letter from KNEC did have much details, only saying the findings of their investigation will be communicated later,” said Ndambuki.

At the same time, parents and students from Katilu Boys High School in Turkana County are anxiously awaiting the outcome of their withheld KCSE results.

The school, which was ranked the top performer in the county in the 2023 KCSE exams, is under scrutiny over what is alleged to be exam irregularities.

Katilu Boys high school is located adjacent to famous Seasonal River Kabokok in Nyangaita Village.

Also on the list is Kipsingei mixed Secondary school in Bomet County.
