Sifuna Clarifies Flying in Same Chopper with Ruto Ally, Cites Recent Crashes

Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna on Saturday, June 15 explained why he chose to board the same chopper as Kericho Senator Aaron Kipkirui Cheruiyot.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General while attending the funeral of Agnetta Okello, Senator Tom Ojienda’s mother at Nyakach in Kisumu County said he flew with Cheruiyot due to the increasing number of plane crashes in the country.

Sifuna emphasized that if he were to board a plane with a UDA member and a plane crash were to occur, both the government and the opposition party would suffer losses.

He further refuted claims of any collaboration or collusion with the Kenya Kwanza government.

“I heard an MC saying that we entered the funeral together with Cheruiyot, claiming that we are now together, but we are not together,” he said.

“We in ODM heard about things happening with planes, and we were told, “Sifuna, when you board a plane, make sure someone from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) also boards it so that if there is a loss, ODM loses, UDA loses, we end up drawing.” That’s why I have come with Cheruiyot; we are not together.”

Sifuna Roasts Senator Tom Ojienda in His Mother’s Funeral

Sifuna also delivered a scathing critique of Senator Tom Ojienda during the funeral of his mother Agnetta Okello.

He sharply rebuked Ojienda citing inappropriateness of political disputes at such a solemn occasion rather than focusing on mourning.

“In Bungoma, where I come from, if you experience a loss like this, Tom Ojienda, you will sit quietly and mourn and allow us to console you, as I know we should,” Sifuna said.

“Instead of arguing here, it would be better to let me debate with Senator Aaron Cheruyoit because he doesn’t have a funeral, but you have just lost your mother. You should stay calm and not get involved in our political issues.”

Ojienda is Still a Member of ODM

Sifuna reminded Ojienda that despite everything, he remains a member of the ODM party, a fact acknowledged by the party’s records.

“When you joined the ODM party, I was one of those who welcomed you. My records, as the custodian of all the party’s records, still show that you are a member of ODM,” he stated.

“If I am mistaken because I am not a Christian like Aaron Cheruiyot, the scriptures say a fierce fire in hell awaits those who see their brothers perish and applaud, saying you are fine. Out of respect for your mother, I want to be a true friend to you, Ojienda. If you step outside ODM, in Kisumu’s political arena, there’s no place where I see anyone telling you the truth.”

The Senator further told Ojienda that his 2027 political ambitions will only come true if he remains within the ODM party.

“These tricksters are deceiving you, saying you should join the government or go elsewhere, aiming for your downfall in the 2027 elections,” he said.

In 2023, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal blocked the ODM party’s plans to expel Senator Tom Ojienda, Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwour alias Jalango, and three others for alleged party disloyalty.

The Tribunal gave a temporary order preventing ODM from removing their names from the party register, providing a reprieve to the politicians.
