The Standard Group PLC has announced leadership changes to its Board of Directors, signaling a focus on innovation, governance, and strategic growth in the media industry.
In a notice dated September 8, the company revealed the appointment of Ms. Laila Denise Cherobon as a Non-Executive Director and Mr. Edward Mwasi as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective immediately.
The changes were made “pursuant to the provisions of Regulation 10.1.1 of the Thirteenth Schedule of the Capital Markets (Public Offers, Listings and Disclosures) Regulations, 2023,” the board said in the public statement.
Laila Denise Cherobon, a recognized strategist in corporate transformation and media innovation, brings over a decade of experience in driving growth and operational excellence.
Who is Laila Denise Cherobon
She currently serves as Chief Strategy Officer at the Standard Group and sits on the Advisory Board of the International News Media Association (INMA).
According to the board notice, Cherobon “champions collaboration, innovation, and best-practice sharing across African media houses.”

The company praised her “strategic guidance and contributions to advancing the organization’s growth and innovation agenda.”
Cherobon holds a BA (Hons) in Business Management from the University of Sunderland (UK), along with a Higher National Diploma (Distinction) and several certifications in project and strategic management.
She is currently pursuing an Executive Master’s in Public Policy Management.
Joining her on the board is Edward Mwasi, a veteran in media strategy and institutional transformation.

Mwasi currently serves as a Media Strategy and Innovation Consultant at the Center for Business Innovation & Training (CBiT).
His three-decade-long career spans editorial leadership, graphic design, and governance reform, including past roles as CEO of the Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board and Chief Graphic Designer at Nation Media Group.
“Mwasi has been instrumental in strengthening governance structures across Kenya where he has trained Board and Commission Secretariats on applying technology to improve workplace efficiency, decision-making, and service delivery,” the company noted.

He holds a degree from the University of Nairobi’s Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Development, with additional training in management and institutional transformation.
Standard Group Resignations
The board confirmed the resignation of Mr. Albert Siegi, Ms. Christine Muthui, and Mr. Chris Otundo as Directors of the Company.
“The Board and Management take this opportunity to thank Mr. Siegi, Ms. Muthui and Mr. Otundo for their sustained and exemplary contribution to The Standard Group PLC and wish them the very best for the future,” the notice read.
The announcement was signed by Ms. Millicent Ngetich, Company Secretary, on behalf of the board.
