Several students have been hospitalized after falling into a septic tank at Kapsabet School for the Deaf, with one student confirmed dead.
According to reports, the incident occurred as the learners rushed to catch a glimpse of President William Ruto’s motorcade passing by the school.
The students stood on an old 20-foot septic tank, which collapsed under their weight, causing the fall.
Emergency responders quickly rescued the students, who are now receiving treatment at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, while authorities investigate the cause and review school safety measures.

Following the incident, Ruto stopped at Kapsabet School for the Deaf, where he expressed regret over the disaster and assured a collaborative investigation into the matter.
“I am here on a development tour for this region. I am aware that some students got injured when they came to see me. I am very sorry for the accident, and we will look into the matter together with the county government,” said Ruto.

Ruto also donated Ksh5 million to develop the infrastructure at the affected school.
“I have assessed the school and realised that you need some infrastructure development. For that, I will leave you Ksh 5 million,” Ruto added.
Further, the police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the exact cause of the accident and to ensure accountability where necessary.
More updates are expected as authorities continue gathering information about the circumstances that led to the accident at the institution in Kapsabet.
Ruto Visits Kapsabet Girls High School for Thanksgiving Ceremony
President William Ruto visited Kapsabet Girls High School on March 12, 2026, as the chief guest, where he presided over a Thanksgiving ceremony.
During his visit, Ruto inspected the construction of a 1,000-capacity dormitory, Ksh 210 million project.
However, the school announced that it had raised Sh60 million, with the President promising Government support to cover the deficit.

Governor Stephen Sang led other leaders in a series of meetings and activities to prepare for the long-awaited tour by the Ruto.
According to Governor Stephen Sang, he was grateful that the president, through the national government, had supported several key projects in the region.
“We thank the president for having been very supportive of development programmes in Nandi County, and that is why we are proud of his visit,” said Sang.
At the same time, Sang said he is determined to hasten the completion of his legacy projects across the county.
Ruto will also launch completed affordable housing projects and commission the construction of a market to serve Kapsabet town.
