The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has warned of strong winds and high waves expected in the northern coast of the Indian Ocean.
In the advisory released on Sunday, July 14, 2024, TMA predicted forecasts winds reaching speeds of 40 kilometers per hour and ocean waves up to 2 meters high.
Tanzania weatherman listed areas to be affected including Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Pwani (the Mafia Islands), and the islands of Unguja and Pemba.
The warning, categorized at a medium likelihood and potential impact level, will remain in effect for five days, covering the period from Monday, July 15, to Thursday, July 18.
The adverse weather conditions are expected to significantly impact economic activities, particularly fishing and shipping operations along the northern coast.

Further, TMA has urged residents and businesses in the listed areas to exercise caution and make necessary preparations to mitigate the impact of the severe weather conditions.

Residents and businesses are advised to remain vigilant, especially those involved in maritime activities.
The authority has also issued illustrations to highlight the severity of the conditions, advising “Attention” for big waves and “Extreme Caution” for strong winds.
