A student from the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has landed a job in the 2024 Paris Olympics games set to begin in July 26.
In a statement, the institution indicated that the student, Catherine Moya, had been appointed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to help in translation and interpretation at the Olympic Village in France.
In addition, the statement indicated that Moya landed the job while in France on a student exchange program and was also serving as an English Language Assistant.
“TU-K Student in France on student exchange lands Olympics Job. Catherine Moya, TU-K student who is an English Language Assistant in France has been appointed to help in translation and interpretation at the Olympic Village in France,” read the statement in part.
Moya is a diploma student at the university studying International Relations.
According to the university, the student was among 10 others who went to France to teach the English language.
“Since 2019, TU-K has sent 34 students to France as English Lang Assistants while the university has received 3 French Language assistants,” indicated the university.

Kenya Names Squad for 2024 Olympics
Athletics Kenya (AK) announced on Thursday, April 4, that Kenya’s double Olympic gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge will be leading a team of 11 Kenyan marathoners who will compete at the Paris Olympics.
Aside from Kipchoge, other members of the men’s team include Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich, Benson Kipruto, Timothy Kiplagat, and Alexander Mutiso.
The Women’s team comprises of Peres Jepchirchir, the defending champion who will lead the women’s squad, New York City and Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri, Brigid Kosgei who finished second in Tokyo, Japan, in the 2020 games.
Ruth Chepng’etich, the two-time champion in Chicago is also on the list, Sharon Lokedi, who is the 2022 New York City Marathon champion, and Rose Mary Wanjiru, 2023 Tokyo Marathon champion.

National Olympic Committee of Kenya on Team Selection
The National Athletics Kenya President Jack Tuwei while announcing the selected team said that it was not an easy decision to select the team.
“We have had fruitful discussions because we wanted to hear from the athletes and coaches on their program ahead of the event. We want a strong team to represent our country,” Tuwei stated.
Additionally, Kipchoge said that the team had put in the work to prepare for the Olympics adding that they will continue to do their best.
“On behalf of all the 11 athletes, I want to thank the federation for naming us and we will work hard to ensure that the final team is full of quality,” he said.
