A 17-year-old girl has been arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the brutal murder of 3-year-old Margaret Wanjiru Kirathe.
The lifeless body was discovered near a church in Menengai, Nakuru County.
The suspect was taken into custody following an intensive manhunt launched after the child was found unconscious just 50 meters from PCEA Shalom Mchanganyiko Church.
She was rushed to Kenlands Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to DCI, preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly lured the toddler from the church premises before strangling her with a piece of cloth in a nearby secluded area.

Authorities are yet to determine the motive behind the killing.

Acting on intelligence, officers traced the suspect to her home in Judea Village, Menengai Sub-Location, where she was arrested.
During the operation, officers recovered clothing worn by the suspect during the incident, identified from CCTV footage, along with the cloth believed to have been used in the murder.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is undergoing processing pending her arraignment in court.
Further investigations are ongoing.
Police Murdered in Thika
This comes barely a week after a Police Constable succumbed to a gunshot wound after he was shot dead in Thika West sub-county Kiambu County.
Police Constable Bernard Koome, who is attached to the Special Police Intercept and Verification SPIV unit was fatally injured during a routine security patrol in the Cravers area on Tuesday June 17, 2025. Koome was shot after a routine inspection of motorcycles turned violent.

According to eyewitnesses, the police constable had gone on a routine patrol, accompanied by three colleagues.
The officers stopped a rider whose motorcycle did not display the unique registration code required for Boda Boda operators in Thika town.
When one of the officers went for the ignition key of the motorcycle, an argument broke out between the officer and the rider.
While Koome was trying to intercept the motorcycle from the Boda Boda Rider, the rider managed to overpower the police constable, seized a firearm, and shot him in the neck.
As the other officers scrambled for cover, the attacker fled before they could respond. He then hijacked a passing motorcycle carrying a passenger near the Royal Hotel and sped away.
