Transport was paralyzed in Kiambu county after heavy destroyed the bridge connecting Thika and Juja Constituency.
According to reports, the bridge at Ndarugu river collapsed on Friday, November 3, morning.
This was after a lorry that was ferrying construction materials from Juja to Komok village in Thika got stuck triggering the crisis that stopped all transport activities in the area.
“We were informed of an accident along the bridge linking Komok with Juja Farm. When we arrived, we found a vehicle stuck to the bridge and destroyed it. No one was injured and the vehicle was also not destroyed,” said Martin Ngugi, Fire Officer in Kiambu.
Thika – Juja Road Closed
Further, residents have been urged to consider alternative routes to get to their destination since the bridge is no longer usable by motorists.
“We have closed the bridge because it is in a risky situation,” said another Fire Officer.
Besides, residents urged Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi to act fast and repair the bridge.
This comes just a day after a landslide occurred along section of the Meru – Mikinduri – Maua (B102) road occasioned by the heavy downpour experienced in the area.

KeNHA Warning
The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) warned motorists using the road to be careful while driving.
“The public is advised to use alternate routes, to and from Maua town. KeNHA is on site clearing the road section to restore traffic flow and ensure safety of the motorists,” said KeNHA.
However, on Saturday, November 4, KeNHA said traffic flow had been restored along the road.
KeNHA noted that it was still working on clearing the remaining soil material from the shoulders and verges of the road.
“Motorists are urged to exercise lane discipline and be courteous to other road users as they approach this section of the Road,” read the update.
