The State Department of Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing’oei, has responded to a viral letter circulating on social media, alleging that the American Non-Governmental Organization, Ford Foundation, has issued an apology to the government of Kenya.
The letter dated September 26 and allegedly addressed to PS Korir claimed that the apology was rendered following a productive meeting between Ford Foundation President Darren Walker and President William Ruto during the UNGA meetings in New York this week.
The date in which the letter purported that the June protests showed a red flag that the letter was fake.
“We want to address the concerns raised in your recent communication regarding the involvement of our grantees in the protests that took place in June 2025. After conducting internal audits and investigations, we confirm that some of our grantees did, in fact, use their funds to support and participate in these protests,” read part of the fake letter.
In his response to the reports, PS Korir stated that he was not in receipt of the said letter adding that it was fake.
“I have not received this letter purportedly addressed to me. On the face of it, it bears the imprints of fake news,” he said.

The letter had also alleged that the Foundation regrets the oversight during the protests and assured that they are thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the issue.
It added that a full report is being prepared, which they will share with the Foreign Ministry upon its completion.
“In response, we are also implementing reforms to ensure stricter oversight and prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future,” the letter said.
“Ford Foundation greatly values our long-standing relationship with Kenya and its people. We are committed to maintaining that trust and working collaboratively to support Kenya’s development.”
It added, “we hope this incident will not hinder our continued efforts. Please accept our sincere apologies. We are taking swift steps to address the matter.”

Ruto Accuses Ford Foundation of Funding Protests
This comes barely days after President Ruto made an unexpected U-turn on his earlier accusations against the Ford Foundation, which he had previously blamed for sponsoring anti-government protests between June and August 2024.
In July, President Ruto publicly accused the Ford Foundation of sponsoring the violent protests that resulted in widespread property destruction and death of Gen Zs.
He had vowed that his administration would take firm action against any organization involved in funding street violence.
“I want to ask the people of Ford Foundation. They should tell us where they get that money from and what profit they gain from funding chaos,” Ruto said during a tour in Nakuru County.
