Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Dagoretti North legislator Beatrice Elachi have defended Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Susan Nakhumicha against the impeachment motion filed against her in parliament.
The leaders who spoke in a TV interview, dismissed the petition filed by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. Instead, they called for the resignation of President William Ruto.
The two leaders argued that the whole government is failing, adding that going after one CS will not provide a solution.
“You cannot impeach Nakhumicha, you need to sort out the mess by sitting down and dealing with that matter. After impeaching her then who comes in? It is a mess, deal with it,” Elachi said.
Leave Nakhumicha & Go for the Boss
Kioni stated that Ruto cannot run the government effectively, adding that Nakhumicha should not be sacrificed for the whole problem.
The former Ndaragwa MP said Kenyans have given up on the government and are waiting to vote them out in 2027.
“When we talk of impeachment, the person we need to impeach is Ruto. We need to ensure that the Constitution allows Kenyans to recall the president,” he said.
He explained that the government has been affected by runaway corruption and that impeaching Nakhumicha won’t be of any help.
Ruto Responsible for Kenya’s Problems
Economic and Governance Expert Prof Fred Ogola, also stated that the impeachment motion should be tabled against Ruto and not Nakhumicha.
Ogola said the president is responsible for the problems facing the country and he should be recalled.
“The problem we have in Kenya is one William Ruto because immediately he was sworn in, he gave us a fake cabinet, fake economic model, and a fake financial policy,” Ogola said.
“He is hitting everybody; the doctors are feeling much agitated because even their pay slips have been raided.”
Ogola further claimed that Ruto lacks leadership and is thinking about himself at the expense of the whole country.
He revealed that there is a bill ready to recall the president and the MPs directly adding that the crisis started immediately after Ruto took his oath of office.
“The fakeness began from day one when Ruto started his speech by saying we inherited a dilapidated economy. How can the economy that has sworn you into office with a budget of over Ksh200 million be dilapidated?” he asked.
“The anger seen in rallies means that you are seeing the 53 million Kenyans following you and you have no idea where you are taking them then you stand back and shout them. That is why we must recall not in 2027, now,” he said.

Opposition’s Old Method
He went on to criticize Babu Owino for trying to use a “stone age” method to remove a CS from office.
The professor asked opposition MPs to come up with new strategies other than impeachment, which has been used since independence.
“We must look at the structures, the system functions and avoid assassination because if you go after Nakhumicha the Luhyas think you are going after their own,” Ogola said.

Counties VS State House Allocations
On the other hand, Kioni criticized Ruto for allocating Ksh358 million to State House and Ksh398 million to the counties.
“One person gets Ksh358M while 47 counties get Ksh398M that is the system that we are running in this country. We are in trouble,” he said.
Borrowing Without Development
He stated that Kenya Kwanza has borrowed Ksh4.2 trillion compared to Uhuru Kenyatta’s Ksh6.2 trillion in 10 years.
“Ruto has borrowed Ksh4.2 trillion and no single project is being implemented. What is it that you are blaming Nakhumicha for?” he asked.
Kioni also criticized the UDA party for admitting Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza against the provisions of the Constitution.
The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has also called for Nakhumicha’s resignation alongside Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and his Agriculture counterpart Mithika Linturi.
