3K FC’s rise from a little-known community club in Embu to Kenya’s top-flight football league is one of the country’s most inspiring football success stories, with the Home of Stars defying the odds to join the FKF Premier League’s elite.
History and Ownership of 3K FC
3K Football Club, commonly known as 3K FC, is a community-owned football club based in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County.
The team plays its home matches at Moi Stadium in Embu.
Established in 2003, the club was formed to give young people in the region an opportunity to develop their football talents and compete in organised competitions.
The club initially operated under the name BMW, an abbreviation for Brave Men Warriors, before adopting the 3K FC identity.
The name 3K represents three villages: Kagumori, Kathangariri and Kibugu, which form part of the community from which the club originated.
Its roots lie in Embu North, where local residents came together to form a football team to represent their communities.
The project gradually developed into a structured football club, attracting players from the surrounding areas and progressing through Kenya’s grassroots football competitions.

Unlike conventional football clubs established and controlled by individual investors, 3K FC was founded on a community ownership model.
Its development has depended on the involvement of local residents, supporters, administrators and other stakeholders who have contributed to its growth.
The club’s community-based structure was formalised through the establishment of a Board of Directors and committee, which took office on March 16, 2023.
3K FC’s new leadership developed a five-year strategic plan covering 2023–2028 to guide administration, financial management, player development and long-term growth.
The plan followed consultations with players, coaches, supporters, partners, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
Charles Njagi emerged as a key figure in the club’s leadership as chairman.
He is credited with strengthening its administration, maintaining financial discipline, and keeping the community project operational despite limited resources.
During its lower-division years, the club struggled with inadequate playing equipment, transport and funding.
During this period, players reportedly trained using stones as cones, while the team hired a Probox to transport players and equipment to away matches.
Players reportedly received modest stipends of between Ksh3,000 and Ksh5,000.
Coaching Changes and Technical Bench
3K FC appointed Nicodemus Omasete as head coach in February 2026 after suspending Francis Chege and his technical bench following a poor run of results.
Omasete initially served as interim coach before being confirmed in the position on March 17, 2026.
Under his leadership, the club recorded six consecutive victories across league and cup competitions, scoring 22 goals and conceding one.
Journey Through the Kenyan Football Leagues
The Embu-based side gradually progressed through the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) league structure, eventually earning promotion to the country’s top-flight competition.
Its breakthrough came in the 2023/2024 season, when it won the FKF Division One Zone A title and secured promotion to the National Super League (NSL).
The club’s progress had started earlier. In December 2022, it qualified for the National Division One League after defeating Kenya Navy 5–4 on penalties in a promotion play-off at Camp Garba Catholic Mission field in Isiolo.
The qualification marked its entry into the third tier of Kenyan football.
In May 2024, 3K FC secured the Division One Zone A championship after defeating Kibra United 3–1 at Moi Stadium in Embu.
It finished the competition with 60 points, two ahead of its closest challengers, Fortune Sacco, to earn promotion to the National Super League for the first time.
The club made its National Super League debut in the 2024/2025 season.
Its first campaign in the second tier proved tougher, finishing ninth with 47 points.
During the campaign, 3K FC also faced disciplinary action from the Football Kenya Federation.
In January 2025, FKF docked the club two points and two goals after finding it responsible for hooliganism and violence involving supporters who invaded the pitch and attacked match officials following a 1–0 defeat to Kibera Black Stars.
The federation also held the club responsible for damage caused at Embu Stadium.
The 2025/2026 season became the defining chapter in the club’s history.
After a difficult start, 3K FC improved its form and mounted a promotion challenge, finishing second behind Migori Youth.

It accumulated 77 points from 38 matches, recording 23 victories, eight draws and seven defeats.
The team scored 62 goals and conceded 26, securing automatic promotion to the FKF Premier League.
The achievement made 3K FC the first club from Embu County to qualify for Kenya’s top football division.
Sponsorship and Financial Requirements
3K FC’s participation in the FKF Premier League increased its operational and financial requirements.
On August 29, 2026, the Kenya News Agency reported that Mozzart Bet Kenya renewed its corporate sponsorship of the club for Ksh20 million.
Chairman Charles Njagi said the club had an annual operating budget of about Ksh73 million, leaving a funding deficit of Ksh53 million.
He appealed to supporters, well-wishers, and potential corporate partners to help meet the club’s financial requirements.
The budget covers player salaries, technical staff payments, transport, accommodation, medical expenses, training and match-day operations.
The club also scheduled a fundraising dinner for November 21, 2026, to mobilise additional financial support.
