Former President Uhuru Kenyatta attended the African Union (AU) Joint Committee Meeting of the Monitoring, Verification and Compliance Mechanism (MVCM) on the Ethiopia-Tigray Peace Agreement.
In a statement, the Office of the 4th President noted that Uhuru joined other MVCM members in the virtual meeting held on December 1, 2023.
“The virtually convened meeting by the AU briefed members on the status of the Ethiopia-Tigray peace agreement also referred to as the Pretoria Agreement or the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) which was signed between the Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in November 2022,” read the statement in parts.
Speaking during the meeting, Uhuru who is also AU High-Level Panel Member congratulated the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the TPLF for the progress so far made.
Further, Uhuru praised the two groups for upholding their end of the bargain towards ensuring a long-lasting peace in the Tigray region.
Besides, he noted that the silencing of the guns has largely attributed to a return to normalcy within the area.
Other Attendees
The meeting which was also attended by the AU High Representative for the Horn of Africa and former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo.
Additionally, former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa and Member of the AU Panel of the Wise H.E. Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka also attended.
The two noted that a lot more still needs to be done in furtherance of the full implementation of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process.
Also in attendance were H.E. Amb. Bankole Adeoye, Commissioner for Political Affairs and Security, AU Commission, Dr. Alhaji Sarjoh Bah, Director of Conflict Management, Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Chief Administrator of the Interim Regional Administration of Tigray Getachew Reda among others.

Kenya Kwanza Attacks Uhuru through Financial Times Propaganda
This comes at a time when Uhuru from a section of the Kenya Kwanza (KK) allied politicians for allegedly mismanaging the country during his reign.
Through high Octane propaganda, the ruling regime has launched scthing attacks at Uhuru – the latest being a fake story article, purportedly published by the Financial Times on November 28.
In the manipulated article, the author claimed that the US Federal Reserve was investigating Kenya’s former President over the 2014 Eurobond.
Several Kenya Kwanza insiders spread the false front page of the Financial Times, before the alleged reporter called out Caleb Kositany, Kenya Airports Authority Chairperson.
“This is a complete fake. I did not write any story about Kenya,” he stated.
“Mr Kositany, I hope you are more careful about how you run your airports and you should be ashamed for spreading such,” said emtri Sevastopulo, a US and China correspondent for the FT.

Speaking on Tuesday, November 21, during the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) seminar in Mombasa, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accused Uhuru of ‘messing’ the economy.
He claimed that Uhuru’s government accumulated debts valued at over KSh.9.6 trillion leading to the current crisis.
“They left behind huge public debt- Ksh9.6 trillion, Ksh900 billion pending bills, Eurobond $2 billion (Ksh305 billion) accruing interests between 12% to 16%. Those debts must be paid by the people of Kenya,” he said.

On November 17, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of dividing leaders on the outcome of the national dialogue conference.
In a statement posted on his social media account, Ichung’wah accused Uhuru of undermining the government’s efforts to restructure the nation.
“Uhuru Kenyatta, you served the country as President for ten years, which is the highest honor a nation can bestow upon any citizen. During your tenure, however, you allegedly harmed our economy and the nation through state capture. What more do you desire? Why disrupt efforts to rectify your legacy?” Ichung’wah questioned.
Furthermore, Ichung’wah said Uhuru fears that the current regime might succeed in doing what he failed to achieve.
Uhuru DRC Peace Keeping Mission
On July 12, 2023, Uhuru attended the second Consultative Technical Team held in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The meeting which involved various stakeholders of the eastern DRC Peace Process was meant to discuss various issues highlighted in the Luanda and Nairobi processes.
Furthermore, the closed-door session majorly discussed matters of cantonment and confidence-building measures among the warring parties in the eastern part of DRC.
In his opening remarks, the Uhuru who was the Facilitator said the meeting, unlike others held outside DRC, had been convened in Goma as an indication of all stakeholders’ commitment to helping the Congolese people find lasting peace solutions to the conflict.
“The peace process is about the Congolese people, and therefore being in Goma instead of meeting in capitals outside of DRC is an indication of each and everyone’s commitment to finding a lasting peaceful solution to the problems that have afflicted this part of our neighboring country,” he said.
In addition, the Facilitator recognized the importance of all stakeholders working together as a team to find a peaceful resolution for the people of DRC.
He appealed to all the armed groups to cease hostilities and give dialogue a chance.
