Students from the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) are set to receive a total amount of Ksh180 each from President William Ruto.
The University in an April 9, 2024, memo noted that it had resorted to dividing a total amount of Ksh1 million among the students which was gifted to them by President Ruto.
Ruto had on March 26, 2024, gifted the students the money when he visited the higher learning institution for an event.
According to the memo seen by The Kenya Times, the students are to receive the amount following a public participation exercise conducted amongst them on how to distribute the money.
“The university through the Directorate of Students’ Welfare conducted a public participation amongst students through a Google form between Tuesday 2 April 2024 to Thursday 4 April 2024,” read part of the memo.
According to the memo, the options set out for the students to vote included sharing the money equally among all students, organizing a luncheon or allocating to student’s bursary.
