The US President Donald Trump has deployed twelve advanced ground-attack aircraft, A-10 Warthog Tank Killer Jets, to a UK base amid the Middle East speculation.
In footage shared by BBC and CobraEmergency on YouTube, twelve US A-10C Thunderbolt II aircraft, commonly known as Warthogs, are seen landing at RAF Lakenheath in the UK in two separate batches.
The US aircraft, designed for close air support, provides direct assistance to ground forces with its 30mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun capable of firing thousands of rounds per minute.
US A-10 Warthogs Land at Suffolk Base
According to BBC reports on April 1, the US military has not disclosed the mission of the aircraft, but analysts indicate they are likely transiting to the Middle East amid rising tensions involving Iran.
Further, they confirmed crowds gathered near the Suffolk base to watch the arrivals, as plane enthusiasts joined a special viewing area by the perimeter fence of the airbase and said the A-10s arrived in two batches of six aircraft each.
The US aircraft’s signature weapon is the GAU-8/A Avenger cannon, a seven-barrel Gatling gun mounted in the aircraft’s nose that can fire up to 3,900 rounds per minute.
Markings on the tails of some of the aircraft indicated they were from the Michigan Air National Guard.
US General Confirms A-10 Warthogs Targeting Iranian Forces as Aircraft Likely Head to Middle East
Speaking to the BBC, US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Caine confirmed that A-10 Warthogs have been actively used to strike Iranian fast attack boats and mine layers along the Iranian coast.

Aviation analyst Sam Wise from Janes also noted that the jets, also seen in Iraq targeting Iranian-backed militias, are likely transiting from RAF Lakenheath to the Middle East to “either expand ongoing missions or replace and support aircraft already deployed in the region.”
During Operation Epic Fury, the Pentagon adapted the A-10 Warthog for maritime operations, employing its 30mm Avenger cannon to target and neutralize Iranian fast-attack boats threatening commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and and surrounding Gulf waters.

According to CENTCOM reports, the A‑10 Thunderbolt II aircraft carried out maritime strike missions against Iranian fast-attack boats and small naval vessels, employing strafing runs and precision munitions to neutralize swarm-boat and small-navy threats.
These jets loitered over operational areas for extended periods, providing rapid response capabilities.
Their deployment aligns with congressional mandates to retain at least 103 A‑10s, highlighting the aircraft’s continued strategic relevance.
Operating alongside other US air and ground assets, the Warthogs offered persistent strike and armed-overwatch roles, proving a cost-effective solution against dispersed Iranian naval and drone targets.
