The United States Embassy in Nairobi has shared a security advisory warning American citizens in Kenya.
This comes ahead of planned nationwide demonstrations set for June 25, 2025, in honour of a “National Day of Remembrance to Demand Justice.”
According to the embassy, social media posts have circulated urging Kenyans to participate in peaceful marches across all 47 counties beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Vigils and additional gatherings are also expected in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) on both June 24 and 25.
The demonstrations are intended to commemorate victims killed during the 2024 protests and are expected to draw large crowds.

The embassy cautioned that demonstrations may take place with little or no notice throughout the coming week and could disrupt transportation, pose security concerns, and potentially lead to clashes with police.

“U.S. citizens should avoid large gatherings and the Nairobi CBD, stay alert, and closely monitor local media for developments,” the advisory stated.
Additional recommendations for Americans in the country include keeping car doors locked and windows rolled up while driving, carrying copies of valid U.S. passports and Kenyan visas.
They should also maintain communication with friends and family regarding their whereabouts and safety.

Planned Protests in Kenya
Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda has reassured the public that security measures are in place ahead of the planned demonstrations on June 25, which will mark one year since the 2024 Occupy Parliament protests.

“For the 25th, we have got what we call enhanced plans for that,” he said, confirming that authorities had received a formal notification about the planned protests.
“The letter that was delivered to the central police station, we are equally having that copy of their intents.”
The June 25 protest is expected to draw a large turnout, primarily from young people identifying with the Gen Z movement, many of whom played a leading role in last year’s Occupy Parliament protests.
What began in 2024 as an online outcry against perceived unfair taxation policies rapidly turned into one of the most significant youth-led civic actions in Kenya in recent memory.
