The United States (US) has issued a strong warning to Iran, threatening military action if Iran continues to support the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the US is fully aware of Iran’s actions and has already warned the country.
Hegseth emphasized that the US is aware of its military capabilities and would not hesitate to take action against Iran.
He warned that Iran would face consequences at a time and place of the US’s choosing.
“Message to Iran: We see your lethal support to The Houthis. We know exactly what you are doing. You know very well what the U.S. Military is capable of — and you were warned,” he said.
“You will pay the consequence at the time and place of our choosing.”
US Threatens Iran Over Houthis Support
In March of this year, former US President Donald Trump escalated his pressure campaign against Iran, threatening to hold the country responsible for any attacks carried out by Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Trump made the comments on his Truth Social platform, asserting that the Houthi attacks were directly linked to Iran.
“Let nobody be fooled! The hundreds of attacks being made by Houthi, the sinister mobsters and thugs based in Yemen, who are hated by the Yemeni people, all emanate from, and are created by, Iran,” Trump wrote.
“Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!”
The Houthis have been involved in a series of attacks on Israeli vessels and other commercial ships in the Red Sea, citing their opposition to Israel’s actions in Gaza and the blockade of humanitarian supplies to Palestinian territories.
Experts widely acknowledge that Iran provides significant support to the Houthis, including arms, and sees the group as part of an informal “axis of resistance” backed by Tehran.
Trump has been pushing Iran to denuclearize — though in 2018, during his first term in the White House, the president withdrew the US from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a deal that would have seen Iran curtail its nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief.

Trump Warns ‘There Will be Bombing’ if Iran Fails to Make Nuclear Deal
Earlier in March, Trump sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warning that the United States could respond “militarily” if a nuclear deal is not reached.
Trump’s letter added further pressure on Iran, urging them to return to negotiations and re-establish the terms of a nuclear agreement.
However, Khamenei rebuffed Trump’s efforts, dismissing the US approach as “bullying.” The Iranian leader also pointed out that it was Trump who had previously abandoned the 2015 nuclear deal, which had limited Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful, civilian purposes, and the country has repeatedly denied any intent to pursue nuclear weapons.
Trump imposed new sanctions on Iran as part of his “maximum pressure” campaign targeting the country.
