Veteran Sports Journalist Joshua Makori has announced his departure from Nation Media Group (NMG) following a 13-year stint at the Kimathi based Media House.
In a statement made on June 20, Makori expressed gratitude to NMG for providing him a platform where he could thrive in sports journalism for over a decade.
“Thank you, Nation Media Group – NTV for giving me a stage to shine on the fields for 13 years. I can only attribute this to the grace of God Almighty,” said Makori.
In a past interview Makori shared his remarkable journey to the top revealing how he managed to land a job at one of the top stations in the country.
Makori’s passion for football commentary began at a young age while at his home village of Nyangoge situated in Nyamira County.

Makori Narrates How He Became a Sports Journalist
He credited his childhood idol, legendary commentator Jack Oyoo Sylvester, who he said inspired him to pursue his dream.
“As a child growing up in the village, I had a dream of becoming a football commentator and enjoyed listening to famed sports presenter Jack Oyoo Sylvester popularly known as Kaka Jos while in class five,” he said.
“I never knew that God had already blessed me with a similar talent. I used to read Swahili storybooks and the entire class would go silent and enjoy my flawless reading as well as the golden voice.”
This he said motivated him to start doing commentary at local tournaments where he got the opportunity to showcase his natural talent.

Joshua Makori Beginning His Journalism Career
After completing his secondary education, Makori joined Jodan College in Thika where he pursued a course in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Before graduating in 2012, Makori was fortunate enough to land a job at Pamoja FM in Kibera. It was here that he then applied for a job at the defunct QFM which was under Nation Media Group.
Unfortunately, his application was rejected but this did not deter him, in the pursuit of realizing his dream of becoming a sports journalist.
As fate would have it Makori took a manual job at the Nation Media Group, arranging unsold newspapers, while continuing to work voluntarily at QTV.
“I started creating a path to work as a presenter. I used to work without pay at QTV during the day and at night resume my newspaper job,” Makori said.
Within a year, Makori’s hard work paid off and he was employed by QTV, where he worked from 2013 to 2016.
