A passenger aircraft crash landed at Nairobi’s Wilson Airport on the evening of May 23 after its landing gear failed while approaching Runway 14.
The aircraft, a Dornier 228-202 registered as 5Y-CES and operated by Kasas Kenya under a lease arrangement with the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), was unable to deploy its landing gear properly.
As a result, the aircraft was forced to land without proper support, sliding along the runway in a controlled emergency landing.
According to reports, all occupants on board were safely evacuated, and authorities confirmed there were no injuries or fatalities.

The plane was captured skidding along the runway, an indication that the landing gear had failed or collapsed. Its propellers were still spinning as it moved forward.
As it rolls on, the aircraft veers slightly and settles awkwardly, appearing to rest on its belly or damaged landing gear.
Preliminary reports indicate the aircraft was carrying a pilot and at least two other occupants at the time, all of whom escaped unharmed.
The Dornier 228-202 involved in the incident is commonly used in humanitarian and relief missions across East Africa under the UNHAS programme.
The service supports aid agencies by transporting personnel and supplies to remote or hard-to-reach areas.
Its involvement in such operations makes it a familiar aircraft in regional airspace, particularly at Wilson Airport, a critical hub for humanitarian and domestic flights.
Earlier Wilson Airport Incident
The crash-landing comes just months after another runway incident at the same airport.

In March 2026, a passenger plane arriving from Kisumu International Airport veered off the runway at Wilson Airport at around 8:55 p.m.
The flight, operated by ALS Limited on behalf of Safarilink as Flight 090, carried 34 passengers and 5 crew members.
All 39 people on board were safely evacuated, with no serious injuries reported.
At the time, the Kenya Airports Authority confirmed that emergency teams responded quickly, secured the aircraft, and ensured passenger safety.
Safarilink said it had launched an investigation in coordination with aviation authorities and was also providing support services to passengers and crew.
