From starting out as a journalist to holding senior positions in major organizations, Wallace Kantai has carved out a remarkable professional journey.
What stands out about his career is his versatility and leadership in various communication sectors.
Currently serving as the Head of Communications at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), his career spans diverse fields, including media, information technology, public relations, and finance, both in Kenya and abroad.
During his media career, Wallace has interviewed and interacted with many world and regional leaders, heads of global businesses, and policymakers.
He has also served as moderator for high-level panels and conferences. Mr. Kantai’s experience extends beyond the media as he has also held positions in Kenya, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Wallace Kantai Early Career in Media
Kantai’s early career saw him taking on high-profile roles in top media stations including a stint as a Business Editor at NTV.
Between December 2015 and May 2019, Kantai served as the Chairman of the Board of the Nation ITF, which at the time invested about Ksh200 million on behalf of members, who are employees of the Nation Media Group.
During his time at NTV, the communication expert was known for his interviews with world and regional leaders, offering audiences an in-depth look at major economic and political issues.
However, his tenure at NTV ended in 2017, following his appointment to the CBK.
Before his role at NTV, Kantai had already established himself as a skilled communications professional, serving as a Communications Consultant at Wananchi Group between July 2008 and October 2010.
Additionally, he hosted “The Platform Show” on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), between May 2010 and October 2010.
He served as an Executive committee member of the Kenya Editor’s Guild between July 2014 to April 2018.

Kantai’s experience is not limited to Kenya. He has worked in countries including South Africa and the United Kingdom, in the public and private sectors, as well as in non-profit organizations.
Besides his role at the CBK, he is the Chief Executive Officer at the Kantai Group, a member of the Amboseli Ecosystem Trust, and a photographer.
His Education
Wallace Kantai’s educational journey began at Lenana School, one of Kenya’s most prestigious institutions, where he studied from 1990 to 1993.
After his time at Lenana, Kantai pursued a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science at the University of Nairobi between 1996 and 2000.
He was an active member of IESEC at the university, and proceeded to be part of the organization after his education.
