A resident of Kitengela in Machakos county, Wangari Gikonyo, is pleading for help after floods marooned her home leaving her trapped inside with her children.
The woman, one of the residents at Blessed Court along Balozi Road, shared a video of her flooded home on social media at around 2:30 am, saying that she was a widow.
She shared subsequent statements on X, indicating that she was desperate for help and did not want to leave her children behind. She added that nothing else mattered and she was not keen on carrying any of her property.
“Oooh, my God. We are dying. Anyone in Kitengela please help. 071944xxx. Balozi Road Kitengela,” she stated, sharing her contact details for emergency services to reach out.
Also, she revealed that she had just moved into the area to start her life afresh.
“I have children in the house please help me. I want to leave with my children, I don’t need to rescue any of my property. You try to pick up your life a fresh as a widow then floods strike,” she lamented.

Kenya Red Cross Responds to Kitengela Emergency
The Kenya Red Cross indicated that it had reached out to the woman, adding that it was conducting emergency evacuation in the area.
At about 7am, Gikonyo confirmed that she was still alive but said she needed emergency evacuation urgently.
In addition, at 7:41 am, the humanitarian organization indicated that it had already rescued six people from the area and was working to help the other trapped individuals.
“Update: Six people have been rescued so far. Efforts to reach others in this challenging operation continue. We are currently on the ground assisting families to move to safety in Kitengela, Kajiado County, following heavy rainfall.
“Our teams are actively involved in helping households along Deliverance Road, Balozi Road, Baraka Road, Blessed Court, New Valley, Changombe, and KAG area,” indicated the Kenya Red Cross.
Subsequently, at 8:17 am, in response to the plea of the woman, the Kenya Red Cross said, “We are doing the best we can.”

Kenya Met Issues Weather Update
In its latest weather Forecast, the Kenya Meteorological Department warned of afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi.
The weather forecast indicated that morning showers may occur in isolated areas, possibly expanding to cover larger regions.
Also, with the heavy rainfall anticipated, the meteorological department warned of potential flooding in low-lying regions, particularly in flood-prone areas and urban areas with inadequate drainage systems.
Furthermore, the Met department predicted the risk of landslides, diminished visibility, and intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes.
“The public is advised to avoid driving through or wading in fast moving water. Those living within flood plains should remain alert as flood waters may appear even in the
absence of rain.
“Landslides may occur on steep slopes where soils become saturated. Also, Visibility is likely to be reduced during heavy rainfall events. Road-users, aviators and boat operators are advised to exercise caution,” noted the Weather forecast department.
