42 people have been reported dead while several rushed to Naivasha hospital after Mai Mahiu flashfloods in Naivasha.
Naivasha Police Commander Stephen Kirui confirmed the death toll saying the number of fatalities could rise as search continues.
109 people have been rescued and rushed to various hospitals within Naivasha.
Heavy rains currently experienced in various parts of the country have caused massive damages to property and loss of lives due to the floods.
The death toll of the raging floods in the country as of Monday April 29 shot to 103 as heavy rains continue to pound different areas.
Governmet Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has said the National Multi-Agency Emergency Response Committee on floods, is undertaking various response initiatives to cushion the affected populations from the effects of the floods.
This is in response to the directive by H. E President William Ruto on 23rd April 2024, to step up emergency response efforts.
Those affected by floods in Nairobi and cannot access their homes are being accommodated at the National Youth Service, Kamiti, and Kasarani while treatment is mainly at Mathare Hospital.

Monday April 29
5:00 pm: Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has said National Youth Service (NYS) will be dispatched to the site of Old Kijabe dam oto control the situation.
12: oo pm: Unknown number of people are feared dead in Kiganjo village, Gitugi ward, Mathioya Constituency in Murang’a County after three houses were swept away by a landslide caused by heavy rains.
According to Murang’a County Disaster manager Bilha Wanjiku, three people have been reported dead, while a man and three of his children are still unaccounted for and are feared trapped inside the debris.
8.00 am: Several people are feared dead and homes swept after flash floods ravaged Mai Mahiu area in Nakuru County early Monday, April 29.
According to reports by Kenya Red Cross Society, a nearby dam at Old Kijabe broke its banks causing heavy destruction in the Area.
Rescue operations are currently ongoing.
“Several people have been taken to a health facility in Mai Mahiu due to flash floods affecting Kamuchiri Village.,” Red Cross said.
“The floodwaters are reported to have originated from a nearby river that broke its banks. The Kenya Police, County Disaster team, Kenya Red Cross and community members are at the scene.”
9.19 am: Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) have advised motorists to expect high traffic congestion around Mai Mahiu.
Road users are expected to plan their routes accordingly and exercise caution when traveling through the affected areas.
Sunday Night Floods
52 passengers travelling in an AIC Moi Girls -Maralal school bus escaped death narrowly when the bus they boarded was swept away by floods at Sura Diru in Samburu County.
The passengers are reported to have been swept away by a swollen river on Maralal- Wamba Road.
Samburu County Police Commander Thomas Ototo confirmed that all passengers were rescued and are safe.
Video clips seen by The Kenya Times online depicted villagers attempting to rescue the passengers from the submerged bus.
Sunday, April 28
In Garissa, a boat carrying a large number of people capsized on Sunday April 28 evening at Kona Punda while heading to Mororo.
“Our teams from Garissa and Tana River County are currently responding to the situation,” Kenya Red Cross said.
23 people have been rescued and are currently receiving care at Madogo Hospital, while others are still missing.
