Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has reported that his ministry has evacuated 409 Kenyans from Sudan.
While addressing the media on Tuesday, May 2 the CS said the government is ready to evacuate any Kenyan who wished to leave the war-struck country.
“We have evacuated 409 Kenyans from Khartoum. There others living outside Khartoum that have opted to remain there. We have also helped evacuate over 500 people from other nationalities and offered them safe passage.” Mutua said.
War erupted in Sudan on April 15 as two generals including regular army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy turned rival, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces engaged in a struggle for power.
Moreover, top UN aid official in Sudan, Abdou Dieng on Monday warned that the situation in Sudan was turning into a full-blown catastrophe.

In addition, President William Ruto also noted that the conflict had reached “catastrophic levels” with the warring generals refusing to heed calls by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the African Union and the international community to cease fire.
President Ruto stated that it was vital to figure out ways to provide humanitarian relief with or without a ceasefire.
Nonetheless, other governments have made efforts to evacuate their citizens from Sudan over the past 10 days.
As a result, thousands of foreigners have been brought to safety by air or sea in operations that are now winding down.
