Daadab Member of Parliament (MP) Farah Maalim has called for the immediate dissolution of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
In a statement on August 20, the legislator criticized the commission, claiming it has strayed from its original purpose of integrating Kenyans and promoting ethnic balance in the public sector.
“NCIC should be disbanded ASAP. The body was mooted with the express purpose of integrating Kenyans. One of the principal roles was to act as a watchdog for ethnic balance in public sector,” said Maalim.
Maalim alleged that NCIC has become the most segregated institution in Kenya, with the Chair, Vice Chair, CEO, CFO, Head of HR, and over 70% of Principal Officers coming from a single community.
“NCIC is the most segregated institution in Kenya today. The Chair, Vice Chair, CEO, CFO, head of HR & over 70% of Principal Officers are drawn from one community,” pointed out the legislator.
Maalim Calls out NCIC For Failing to Investigate Other Top Govt Officials
He argued that the commission has lost its founding purpose and stressed that no one should be above or below the law.
“It has lost its founding purpose nobody should be above or below the law. Many top officials are untouchables,” he said.

Furthermore, Maalim accused Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of violating cohesion rules without facing repercussions from the commission.
“DP Gachagua can flout cohesion basic rules with impunity without fear of legal consequences,” remarked the MP.
He insisted that NCIC must first undergo integration before it can effectively monitor national unity.
“NCIC has to be integrated before it can act as integration watchdog,” he said.
NCIC Investigates Farah Maalim Over His Inflammatory Remarks
Maalim’s remarks come amid ongoing investigations by NCIC into his alleged inciteful statements against Gen Z protesters involved in the anti-Finance bill 2024 demonstrations.
The MP was in a statement made on July 10, summoned by the commission to assist with the investigations.
The Commission explained that Farah’s statements violate Section 13(1)(a) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
NCIC added that his comments are likely to “incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination” and affect the harmonious coexistence between groups of different political affiliations.

In response to the summons, Maalim recorded a statement with NCIC, denying allegations that he advocated for the death of Gen Z protesters.
He dismissed claims that he called for the butchering of the youth, insisting that the viral clips had been edited and does not reflect his position.
“I never called for the death of any Kenyans. I didn’t and I will never call for it,” he said.
“I am a very honest person for over 30 years of been in the politics of this country. I am one person who has had a track record that is matched by very few people.”
Maalim’s party, Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya, has since expelled him for failing to uphold the party’s ideals.
The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) also called for the de-whipping of the MP from all leadership positions in Parliament
