Lamu West MP Hon. Ruweida Mohammed has given a Notice of Motion proposing special treatment for Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and other special forces in airports.
Giving her notice in Parliament, the MP wants Kenya Airways compelled to adopt a priority boarding protocol where KDF officers and Kenya Special forces will be allowed to board their planes before members of the public.
According to her, such treatment would only be befitting and overdue given their importance to national security and the sacrifices they make in their line of duty.
She stressed that Kenya was lacking a framework or even a national policy to ensure that members of the KDF and other special forces feel honored for the role they play in keeping the country secure.
While reading the motion, Ruweida also noted that other countries have already adopted such policies to appreciate and honor their disciplined forces.

In some countries, she noted, special forces in the military are accorded privileges including being served first in banking halls.

“It is important to accord a special privilege and honor to our military and veteran personnel akin to the practice observed in other countries including being allowed to access services like banking and boarding of flights ahead of general public,” she read her notice in a parliament session on Wednesday, February 28.
To further justify her proposal, MP Ruweida stated that having a policy allowing special treatment for the forces would not only instill a sense of pride for their work, but also boost their morale.
“There is currently no token of appreciation for their remarkable dedication, service and sacrifice made by the KDF,” the MP noted.

“This practice would not only instill a sense of pride among members of the KDF personnel but also enhance their morale and motivation thereby boosting their performance.”
