President William Ruto has invited the private sector to take part in the management of the World Rally Champions (WRC) Safari Rally.
Speaking on Sunday, March 31, during the closing ceremony of the 2024 WRC Safari Rally at the Hell’s Gate in Nakuru County, Ruto said the private sector should take part in the management so as to make the event more effective and vibrant in 2025.
He added that taking charge of the event would also provide them with an opportunity to explore untapped business opportunites.
“This event today is heavily sponsored by the government of Kenya yet there is opportunity for private sector to participate. I want to invite the private sector to take over this event, manage it better and gain from it in a very positive way,” Ruto said.
“We invite the private sector to play a greater role in the management of the WRC Safari Rally and explore untapped opportunities.”
Ruto explained that the event is watched by 170 countries around the globe and by over 85 million people in Africa, and other parts of the world.
He said “This event has had close to 50 television stations airing it in different formats. This is an event which every businessperson and entrepreneur would want to sample.”
For this reason, the president revealed that the government is ready to give space but will continue to backstop and support the safari rally.
“I encourage the private sector and people in enterprise to participate in this event, to sponsor parts of this event so that we can benefit from what safari rally is,” he said.
