Russian President Vladimir Putin has launched attacks on Ukraine just hours after US President Donald Trump indicated that the United States could impose additional sanctions on Russia.
This follows Putin’s announcement that Russia is immune to such sanctions.
On the morning of Saturday, October 25, 2025, Russian troops conducted a ballistic missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv.
The attack resulted in nine injuries, damage to a kindergarten, destruction of vehicles, and shattered windows in various buildings.

Reports indicate that the assault by Russian forces began on Friday, October 24, and continued into the early hours of Saturday.
Timur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, along with the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported the attack around 4:00 AM.

The Ukrainian Air Force had previously warned of the risk of ballistic missiles from the northeast and of high-speed targets approaching Kyiv in an alert at around 03:51. A series of loud explosions occurred in the capital shortly after.
In the Desnianskyi and Darnytskyi districts, local authorities reported that there were fires in non-residential buildings resulting from the attacks, along with multiple vehicles on fire.
Putin’s attack came shortly after he stated that Russia considers US sanctions as ineffective, claiming they would not significantly impact the Russian economy.
Trump Hints at Imposing Additional Sanctions on Russia
“Regarding the new sanctions, this is clearly an attempt to exert pressure on Russia,” Putin remarked.
“However, no self-respecting country or people ever makes decisions under pressure. And Russia certainly considers itself to be among those self-respecting nations.”

When a journalist asked about Putin’s comments regarding the sanctions and their potential impact on the economy, Trump appeared unbothered, hinting that decisive action might be taken in the coming six months.
“I’m glad he feels that way. I’ll let you know about it in six months. Let’s see how it all works out,” Trump said.
