A court in Nairobi has halted all cases against former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko temporarily.
High Court judge, Weldon Korir, halted cases before Kamiti and Kiambu Law Courts.
Judge Korir ruled that Sonko had established that his arrest by the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) and Inspector General of police did not accord him the constitutional requirements and thereby issued the temporary orders.
Korir also noted that there was no rebuttal to the applicant’s deposition in the way he was arrested and prosecuted as a result of statements he made in a public rally.
“From the applicant’s pleadings I sense a threat to the right to freedom of conscience, religion, belief and opinion,” the ruling read.
Sonko had moved to court challenging his arrest and prosecution.
