The Judiciary of Kenya has acknowledged a surge in public commentary regarding the ethical conduct of judicial officials and the broader administration of justice.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 18, the Judiciary emphasized the importance of directing complaints to the Office of the Judiciary Ombudsman or the Judicial Service Commission.
At the same time, the Judiciary encouraged constructive public discourse and urges individuals to report any allegations of misconduct to the appropriate investigatory bodies.
“The Judiciary remains committed to honesty, integrity, accountability, and transparency, upholding the rule of law and the Constitution,” the Directorate of Public Affairs and Communication affirmed.
The public is also encouraged to approach other relevant government agencies to ensure a thorough pursuit of the truth.
Judiciary On Citizen Complaints
The statement cautioned the public against making unsubstantiated claims that could damage the reputations of judicial officers and staff, highlighting the necessity of evidence-based accusations to prevent character assassination.

This reaffirmation came amid heightened scrutiny and calls for accountability within Kenya’s judicial system, reflecting the Judiciary’s dedication to maintaining public trust and the principles of justice.
The arm is currently mourning the death of Makadara Law Courts Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti.
Following her death, Chief Justice Martha Koome announced that Tuesday, June 18, will be a day of mourning for the entire Judiciary.
“Tuesday, 18th June 2024 is declared as a day of mourning for the entire Judiciary in solidarity with Hon Kivuti’s family, friends, and colleagues as well as all Judges, Judicial Officers and Staff who have been deeply affected by this tragedy,” Koome said.
Monica Kivuto’s Death
Monica Kivuti was shot in the chest and left hip during a court session by OCS Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto who was immediately shot dead by officers manning the court premises.Â
On Saturday, June 15, two days after the shooting, CJ Koome announced the death of Kivuti.

According to a police statement released on Thursday, June 13, a 55-year-old OCS from Lodiani shot at Magistrate Kivuti who had declined a request to release his wife through cash bail.
The accused, identified as Jeniffer Kabiru, was facing charges of obtaining money by false pretense amounting to Ksh2.9 million.
“He entered inside the court through the magistrate’s door and fired shots towards the magistrate injuring her on the chest and left hip,” said CJ Koome in a previous statement.
Following the incident, CJ Koome ordered that the Makadara Law Courts remain closed until Monday, June 17 for security reinforcement.
