Maxine Wahome’s lawyer Philip Murgor has told the court that his client was in an abusive relationship with her late boyfriend Asad Khan.
Murgor during a bail application hearing on Tuesday, Marh 21 stated that rally driver Maxine Wahome was “brutally assaulted” and did not kill Asad.
According to the lawyer’s argument, Maxine had called her mother on that fateful day, asking her to come with the police because her life was in danger.
“She chose to call her mother and the police officer says that’s not normal… it’s normal in Kenya, today the last person you call it’s the police,” Murgor told the court.
Moreover, Murgor told the court that the late Asad tricked Maxine and benefited from her success.
“This young lady was in the relationship when she was twenty-two, it was the deceased who tricked her down; she was a nursery schoolteacher and ended up in rallying because of her father. The deceased was a mechanic who helped her get the car and when she got famous all her sponsorship money went to the deceased and the brother,” he said.
The lawyer further said Maxine Wahome has little money in her bank account as her sponsorship money went directly to the deceased.

As such, Murgor asked the court to release his client on bail and put her into the custody of her parents since she cannot obstruct investigations.
“The deceased was 50 years old so when they say she will interfere with the witnesses… look at the age gap of the accused and the brothers who are yet to testify… can she interfere with the witnesses?” Murgor submitted.
However, the DPP opposed Maxine’s release on bail, arguing that she may interfere with witnesses.
The DPP also noted that the rally driver’s decision after the incident to call her parents and not the police raise issues.
Nonetheless, Maxine Wahome has pleaded not guilty to killing her late boyfriend, Asad Khan.
