Police in Athi River, Mlolongo has arrested a woman trying to sell off her two-week-old son. The woman is said to have gotten into a deal of KSh 60,000 with another woman.
Child Trafficking
The police have labelled this as child trafficking. They were able to arrest the two after they received a tip from the public about them.
They were able to set a trap for the mother and the other woman, whereby they both fell into it.
Mlolongo Division Assistant County Commissioner Dennis Ongaga said that they had a team that posed as customers who wanted to buy the baby.
“The women have been taken to Mlolongo Police Station for further investigations. The rescued infant has been taken to a rescue center in Kitengela,” he added.

Rampant Within The Town
Ongaga said that this was the second incident that got to be reported this year, and the illegal business has been rampant in the busy town.
The officer said such cases have been on the rise in the region and police are determined to bring the vice to an end.
“We have well-wishers who have been on the lookout because such incidents have been increasing,” added Mr. Ongaga.
He further stated that police investigation shows that girls below eighteen years have fallen prey to such deals whereby they sell their children to older women.
Last month, a woman identified as a Winnie Rose Mumbe was arrested in the same county for selling her newborn child for KShs 1,000 to Tina Mulinge.
