Traffic police officers across the country have been instructed to impound and charge motor vehicles and motorcycle owners with unauthorized LED lights.
These include those who have illegally equipped lamps, modified illuminating lights, or flashing lights on their vehicles or motorcycles. Likewise, the National Police Service also singled out red lights, opaque rear lights, flickering lights, and LED illuminating bars as modifications that violate the regulations.
The National Police Service’s chief, Bruno Shioso, in a statement stated that the modifications in vehicles are in violation of Section 55 of the Traffic Act (Cap 403), which specifies the requirements for lights on private, PSV and commercial vehicles, trailers, trucks, tuk-tuks, and motorcycles.
Moreover, traffic police have been directed to crack down illegal sirens and red and blue lights.
“The above are contrary to the requirements of the law thus endangering the lives of road users. Through this, all car owners are advised to adhere to the requirements of the law to avoid any inconveniences,” Shioso said.
Furthermore, the NPS has asked owners of PSV, tour, and commercial vehicles to ensure that their cars have valid licenses, including a Road Service License, Tour Service License, Motor Vehicle Inspection Sticker, and PSV badge for the driver and conductor.
