Embu University organized a sensitization program for their students with disabilities.
The Dean of Students, Prof. Fredrick Njoka, through his office organized the sensitization program to boost self-esteem as well as to educate the students with disabilities on their rights as PWDs.
“Embu University is a growing institution, and lately we’ve been receiving a mixture of students. We thought it wise to first have a session with them, take them through a few areas as far as their well-being as PWDs. We also plan to make it big by involving other students in the subsequent sessions that will follow,” Prof Njoka said.
In addition, the program also aimed to sensitize the students on Mental Health issues.
According to the assistant admin at the office of Dean of students Embu University Graca Awuor, people often suffer in silence and don’t seek treatment for their conditions because of the misconceptions and stigma surrounding mental health issues.
She further noted that Mental health awareness is an important initiative to improve understanding of mental health conditions and increase access to healthcare for those who need it.

“I want to really thank our school administration for organizing for us such a wonderful session. The knowledge imparted to us will go a long way in shaping our view on matters of disability and more importantly, it helps us in boosting our mental strength. We look forward to seeing more of this.” Benedict, who is one of the Embu University students with disability stated.
“We are surely going to walk out of this meeting with our heads up and ready to be ambassadors and champions of disability inclusion and awareness,” he added.
