Azimio La Umoja – One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga said he is the man who intervened to reduce Unga prices in a bid to lower the high cost of living.
While speaking during a campaign rally in Nakuru on Tuesday, Mr Odinga said he asked president Kenyatta to put in place contingency measures to cushion Kenyans from the high prices.
“I talked to Uhuru and told him to reduce the Unga prices and you saw on Monday he reduced the prices. From today Unga is Sh100 and are you not happy? When I get into government we will reduce the high cost of living to alleviate suffering of Kenyans,” he said.
Moreover, Raila criticized Deputy President William Ruto for labelling the reduced Unga prices a political ploy to dupe voters in their political direction ahead August polls.
“That Sugoi man (Ruto) is complaining that this is all political because he wants Kenyans to continue suffering and doesn’t want Kenyans to be cushioned.” Odinga added.
In addition, the deputy president while campaigning in Nairobi on Monday, July 19 questioned the government on why they let Kenyans to suffer for too long before intervening.
Moreover, Ruto claimed that the government reduced the price of maize flour because elections are near, adding that the intervention is late as Kenyans have already decided.

“The government wants to reduce the price of unga because elections are nearing, the same government initially blamed the high prices on the Ukraine-Russia war and the war is still ongoing, why did you leave Kenyans to suffer?” stated the DP.
Likewise, Amani National Coalition (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi also asked Kenyans not to be tricked into supporting Azimio coalition. He further questioned the government on why prices of cooking oil as well as fuel are still high.
“The knee-jerk solutions are meant to sway voters to vote for the Azimio team next month, please do not accept to be swayed,” Mudavadi stated.
The remarks by Kenya Kwanza Team follows the Monday announcement by government over the reduced price of maize flour.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture said it will deploy a team to conduct market surveillance to ensure the commodity is sold at the recommended price.
